Intuitive Eating during COVID-19 Resources
This compilation of intuitive eating resources will help you navigate food and body image struggles that could be flaring up right now during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Maybe you were doing just fine on your intuitive eating journey but the disruption to your normal routine due to COVID-19 has left you feeling derailed.
I feel ya!
Maybe you still have one foot in diet culture and all this talk of immune support, “healing” foods and the “quarantine 15” has your head spinning.
I am praying for you!
Maybe you never really struggled with food before, but the Stay-At-Home order has you feeling stuck, stressed and emotional.
Girl, you are in good company!
So I’ve put together a list of podcast episodes and articles that have been blessings to me in this COVID-19 season of uncertainty and anxiety. They are too good not to share!
Whatever your situation, I hope these resources will help you deal with the challenges your facing around food, body image and health.
Disclaimer: For the record, whenever I recommend a book, podcast, article, or some other resource, I’m NOT saying I recommend every single word or idea in it. I AM saying that I found something useful in it that spoke to me and helped me take a step forward on my journey. I believe that if I got something out of it, you might too.
PODCASTS: Resources to support your intuitive eating journey during COVID-19
Healthy Balanced Mama Podcast – I love Kristin’s take on the COVID-19 struggle. It’s like getting some real talk from a friend. And while she is my friend IRL, I bet you’ll feel that way too!
In this special bonus episode she shares four reasons you might be feeling crazier around food, and what to do about it. Check out the episode on her website BONUS: Why you might be feeling crazy around food right now
Compared to Who? Podcast – Heather Creekmore is my go-to authority about body image from a Christian perspective, so I loved her Quarantine Survival Tips episode that unpacks ED and body image flare ups so many of us are battling right now.
Bonus: if you’re trying to manage homeschooling for the first time, you’ll love the first 21 minutes of the episode since Heather is a homeschool pro speaking some words of wisdom to any mamas thrown into the homeschool arena thanks to COVID-19. (If that’s not applicable for you, just start after the homeschooling info at about the 21 minute mark)
We’re Not Weighting Podcast – Co-hosts Tonya and Tracy (2 ladies who have navigated their own food and body image recovery) bring a special, impromptu episode to speak into the pain and fears of women whose food and body image issues are being triggered by the Coronavirus global pandemic.
Be sure to check out the amazing resources they created just for this episode, including a printable download guide to dig deeper into the topics and a Spotify Playlist including everything from Jay-Z to Jesus (they are calling my name with that one!). This one is a must listen! So go check out Episode 53 Corona Care and grab the goodies on the We’re Not Weighting website.
Food Psych Podcast – Christy Harrison’s Food Psych podcast is a huge part of my story (it’s how I was first introduced to intuitive eating) and I am a huge fan of everything she does. The intro portion of Food Psych Episode #233 answers a listener question about COVID-19 struggles.
Her answer provides a big dose of compassion and critical warning I want all of you to hear about how diet culture is morphing and fear-mongering around this pandemic. (Spoiler Alert: no food can save you!) Don’t miss this warning!
ARTICLES: Resources to support your whole health during COVID-19
Food and Faith – My article on what your food struggles during quarantine have to teach you about your faith hasn’t come out on iBelieve yet… but I’m leaving a little place holder for it here. COMING SOON
Healthy Habits in a Quarantine – I wrote a freelance article that will help you cultivate daily practices for the greatest commandment, to love God with all your your heart, mind, soul and strength (that’s my blog’s organizing theme verse by the way). Check it out on iBelieve: Now Is the Time for New Quarantine Habits.
Which TP Are You Relying On: Toilet Paper or Truth Principles? This blog post from my friend Lisa Jones is right on time in this Coronavirus mess. I especially like the heart exposures and self inspection questions she includes. They would be great journal prompts for you to pray and write through. Check out Which TP are you relying on on Lisa’s blog.
Emotional Eating – My future podcast co-host Char-Lee Cassel wrote a timeless blog post on “How to Stop Emotional Eating: 4 Biblical Steps“. It’s so powerful! Since so many of use are on an emotional roller coaster right now (as we stay in our homes riding out this Coronavirus storm) her post seems more timely than ever! Go check it out.
